On Wednesday (July 20, 2022), from the Farnborough International Airshow, Airbus announced that easyJet has ordered a further 56 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft, as part of the airline’s fleet renewal and up-gauging, as well as cost and sustainability enhancements. As part of the new agreement, easyJet will upsize an order for 18 A320neos to the larger A321neo model. easyJet is the world’s largest operator of Airbus’ single aisle aircraft and currently operates a fleet of over 300 A320 Family aircraft, including A319s, A320ceos, A320neos and A321neos.

In Wednesday’s announcement, easyJet’s Chief Financial Officer, Kenton Jarvis said,

“We believe this order will support positive returns for the business and the delivery of our strategic objectives. The new aircraft are aligned with easyJet's sustainability strategy, with the adoption of the more efficient new technology aircraft being a core component of easyJet's path to net zero emissions. Alongside this, the new aircraft are significantly quieter, with half the noise footprint of the older aircraft they are replacing.”

Also commenting on the new order, Airbus’ Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International, Christian Scherer, added,

"easyJet has democratised flying for millions of travellers and we are delighted this latest agreement for 56 A320neo Family aircraft not only future proofs its growth as traffic rebounds, but also lays the foundations for its sustainability journey.”

The Airbus A320neo Family combines the latest technologies including new generation engines and advanced Sharklets, which combine to deliver a fuel savings of at least 20 percent versus previous generation aircraft. With over 8,100 orders from more than 130 customers, the A320neo Family is the world’s most popular aircraft.

easyJet carries nearly 100 million passengers annually on around 1,000 routes to over 130 airports in 31 countries. The airline has a fleet of over 300 aircraft, and more than 300 million Europeans live within an hour’s drive of an airport served by easyJet. The 25 plus year old low-cost carrier is dedicated to innovation and leads the industry in digital, web, engineering and operational efficiencies. easyJet was named “Britain’s Most Admired Company” in the transport sector for 2020, based on the longest running annual corporate reputation study in the UK.
