On Wednesday (January 28, 2025), Discover Airlines announced that a total of 16 Airbus A330-300s will be equipped with a completely new ‘Ocean Blue’ cabin.  The first aircraft with the new cabin will take to the skies in April 2027, with the rest of the Airbus A330 fleet to be retrofitted gradually thereafter.  All aircraft are scheduled to be equipped with the new cabin by mid-2028. Each refreshed Airbus A330 will have 288 seats, with 227 in Economy Class, 31 in Premium Economy Class and 30 in Business Class.  The name Ocean Blue pays homage to the company’s history, as Discover Airlines started in 2020 as an internal project under the name ‘Ocean.’  Even today, towers around the world still call the cockpit crews by the call sign Ocean (OCN).

In Wednesday’s announcement, Discover Airlines’ CEO, Ulrich Lindner, said,

“With this investment, we are setting new standards for long-haul leisure flights. Five years after our founding, we are investing a three-digit million euro sum specifically in comfort, quality, and the travel experience of our guests.  This is a clear commitment to the further development of Discover Airlines.  We are proud of what we have achieved and look forward to welcoming our guests to the new Ocean Blue cabin soon.”

Inspired by the vastness and colors of the ocean, the new cabin design stands for the joy of discovery and wanderlust, perfectly underlining Discover Airlines’ character as a leisure airline. The new cabin features a modern and elegant appearance, with bold blue tones, clear shapes, selected color accents, and fine details that create a high-quality ambience across all three classes.  The cabin concept is complemented by human-centric lighting, which uses different light colors to support passengers’ biorhythms and contribute to their well-being on board.

With optimized seating optimized seating, passengers will benefit from more legroom and a comfortable seat angle.  The 6-way adjustable headrest and increased storage space further enhance comfort on long journeys.  As always, passengers can also book seats with significantly more legroom on request.  Discover’s Ocean Blue Premium Economy seat uses an innovative hard-shell design which can be adjusted effortlessly without disturbing fellow passengers, while discreet privacy screens also ensure greater privacy.  The large seats also feature a generous recline, an integrated leg rest, and built-in reading light, allowing for flexible and comfortable seating positions.

The new Ocean Blue Business Class cabin features a 1-2-1 configuration that gives every seat direct access to the aisle.  Around half of the seats are paired, with an adjustable privacy divider that allows passengers to choose between privacy and shared travel moments.  As before, the seats can be converted into a fully lie-flat bed approximately two meters long, but compared to today’s model, they offer significantly more privacy, personal space, and storage options.  A special highlight are the two new Business Class Suite seats in the front row, which feature sliding doors approximately 1.20 meters high, 32-inch monitors, generous open legroom, more space and storage, and an expanded culinary offering.

All cabin classes feature significantly larger 4K touchscreens with integrated Bluetooth functionality.  In Economy Class, USB-C ports are available at every seat, and Business Class and Premium Economy offer USB-C and power outlets as well as wireless charging.  In Premium Economy, guests can also enjoy noise-canceling headphones for the first time.  Discover Airlines’ already offers internet access fleetwide.  In the future, all aircraft will be upgraded to the fastest in-flight internet currently available from the provider Starlink, which will then be available to guests free of charge.
