Discover Airlines Touches Down in Alta, Norway for the First Time

Discover Airlines launched their inaugural flight between Frankfurt and Alta, Norway on Thursday, December 4th. Between December and April, the route will now operate up to twice weekly.
On Thursday (December 4, 2026), Discover Airlines announced the launch of their direct inaugural flight between Frankfurt (FRA) and Alta (ALF) in Norway. The almost fully booked Airbus A320, flight number 4Y1302, landed on time at Alta Airport after a flight time of around three and a half hours. With this new route, Discover Airlines expands their portfolio with another destination in the Arctic region. Alta is the northernmost European destination offered by the Lufthansa Group, another milestone in the continuous expansion of their northern and winter route network. Between December and mid-April, Discover will offer up to two weekly direct flights between Frankfurt and Alta on Thursdays and Sundays.
Located in the Norwegian Province of Finnmark, Alta is one of the northernmost cities in the world. Its proximity to the Arctic Circle makes the region one of the best places to observe the Northern Lights, which is why it is nicknamed the ‘City of the Northern Lights.’ The Aurora Borealis is visible in Alta from September through March, with the period from late November to mid-January being particularly spectacular. During this time, the sun does not rise and the chances of seeing the Northern Lights are especially high. Alta also serves as the ideal starting point for winter activities like dog sledding, ski expeditions, overnight stays in an igloo hotel, whale watching, ice fishing and more.
Alta is Discover Airlines’ third destination in Norway and fifth in northern Europe. In addition to year-round connections to Evenes (Norway), Kittilä (Finland), and Reykjavík (Iceland), the carrier also offers seasonal flights to Bodø (Norway) from Munich in summer and will add a seasonal connection to Ålesund (Norway) from Frankfurt in May 2026.
