On Friday (September 30, 2022), China Airlines announced that their first charity micro-trip ‘Pikachu Jet CI’, an Airbus A321neo, registration B-18101, departed Taoyuan Airport at 11:00. With China Airlines’ President, Kao Shing Hwang, serving as tour guide for the day, the aircraft flew north over Miyako-jima, Okinawa and Kagoshima, greeting Japan at long last. The aircraft landed at Songshan Airport in Taipei at 15:07, bringing the one-day Pokémon trip to a successful conclusion. The micro-trip generated a big buzz among fans, with the 80 limited-edition seats selling out in only nine minutes. All proceeds from the micro-trips will be donated to the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families (TFCF). The carrier also invited healthcare workers and children from the TFCF non-profit kindergarten to participate in the trip. Additionally, 100 tonnes of carbon credits were donated by China Airlines for all guests on the trip.

A special event was held at the boarding gate at 09:30 on Friday to celebrate Flights CI17616’s charity micro-trip. VIP’s attending the ribbon cutting ceremony included China Airlines’ President, Kao Shing-Hwang, Senior Vice President Chen I-Chieh, and The Pokémon Company Corporate Officer, Sasumu Fukunaga. Photos were taken and given to each traveler as a memento, and Pikachu also showed up to see the passengers off. Micro-trip guests also had the opportunity to stand on the apron to view the Pikachu Jet CI from all angles.

The signature menu for the micro-trip was inspired by the Pokémon theme and featured hand-selected local ingredients that incorporated signature color motifs. Menu selections included Tomato with Cheese Bread, Beef Hamburger with Omurice in Tomato Gravy Sauce, and Pan-Fried Chicken Thigh with Omurice in Tomato Gravy Sauce. For dessert, guests were treated to Pokémon Herbal Jelly, adding a layer of fun to the meal. For an even richer flying experience, Business Class guests were served a bespoke dessert created in partnership with Le Ruban, a French-inspired patisserie in Taipei City.
