On Tuesday (August 12, 2025), Brussels Airlines announced a substantial increase in demand for travel to cooler destinations.  The carrier has reported a 12 percent increase in passengers traveling to Scandinavia compared to summer 2024, among others.  In cooperation with the travel agency Nordic, Brussels Airlines has added Evenes (Norway) to their network, but also serves other ‘Coolcation’ destinations such as Edinburgh (Scotland) and Bilbao (Spain).  With heat waves across Europe, people are increasingly searching for destinations with enjoyable temperatures.  Therefore, Brussels Airlines has worked on diversifying their destination portfolio to satisfy this increasing demand.

In Tuesday’s announcement, Brussels Airlines’ Head of Leisure Sales, Greet Vandebos, said,

“I’ve discovered Scotland myself during my most recent holidays, and I can tell: Scotland treated me to four seasons in one day – but surprisingly little rain!  Perfect hiking weather, breathtaking landscapes, and even a ray of sunshine while paddleboarding on Loch Ness (and no monsters in sight).  For those who love fresh air, active days, and a touch of mystery: this is the ultimate coolcation.”

Also commenting on the increasing interest in ‘Coolcations’, Nordic’s Founder and CEO, Maarten Raes, added,

“Coolcations are more than just a trend – they’re a solution for people who're looking for calm, nature and a cool breeze.  Together with Brussels Airlines, we make a dream holiday more accessible than ever.”

Another new destination this summer is Funchal (Portugal), and despite its southern location, the Atlantic climate makes temperatures generally moderate throughout the year, with warmer winters and cooler summers.  Other destinations in Brussels Airlines’ network that offer cooler temperatures during a hot summer include Stockholm and Gothenburg (Sweden), Copenhagen (Denmark), Oslo (Norway), and Vilnius (Lithuania).
