Starting October 18, 2023, British Airways is simplifying and expanding the way customers collect Avios on flights. With the new model, members can earn up to nine Avios per £1 spent, depending on Tier status, and will also earn Avios on ancillary purchases.
On Tuesday (July 18, 2023), British Airways announced that they will simplify and expand the way customers can collect Avios on flights. Starting October 18, 2023, members can earn up to nine Avios for each £1 spent depending on Tier Status, and will also be able to earn Avios for ancillary purchases for the first time. Additional earning opportunities include the purchase of ancillary items such as upgrades, pre-paid seat selection and excess baggage, either in advance or at the airport.
In today’s announcement, British Airways’ Director of Retail and Customer Relationship Management, Ian Romanis, said,
“We continue to listen to our customers’ feedback and ideas to evolve our Executive Club. This is a simpler and more transparent system offering more opportunities to collect Avios than ever before and rewarding loyalty based on customers’ cash spend. It’s a tried and tested model already used by a number of global airlines, including our sister airline Iberia.”
Under the new collection model, Blue members will receive 6 Avios, Bronze 7, Silver 8, and Gold Tier members 9 Avios for each qualifying £1 spent. Qualifying purchases include the base fare and carrier-imposed charges on commercial tickets on any British Airways and Iberia marketed flights, as well as upgrades, pre-paid seating charges or excess baggage. Additionally, Executive Club Members can collect Avios for everyday purchases with the British Airways American Express Credit Card, traveling with Uber, converting Nectar points, or shopping on the British Airways Avios eStore.
