On Thursday (August 3, 2023), British Airways announced a short-haul network expansion with the addition of flights from London Heathrow (LHR) to Riga, Latvia (RIX) and Belgrade, Serbia (BEG). Riga flights will operate three times weekly from October 29th with a mix of Airbus A320/321 aircraft and return fares from £73 or £1 + 23,500 Avios. Belgrade service will start on October 31, 2023, with three weekly A320/321 flights and fares from £105 or £1 + 23,500 Avios. Additionally, Milan-Linate (LIN) has re-joined British Airways’ London City (LCY) network, and service to San Sebastian has been extended for the winter 2023/24 season. Starting November 5, 2023, the Milan-Linate route will operate once weekly on Sundays by BA Cityflyer with an Embraer E190 and return fares from £112, complementing existing service from LHR.

In Thursday’s announcement, British Airways’ Director of Networks and Alliances, Neil Chernoff, said,

“We are excited to be adding European cities Riga, Belgrade and Cologne to our route network. These are destinations that we think our customers will love, offering an alternative to some of the more well-known cities we fly to. We also know that Italy in particular is a firm favourite with our customers, so we look forward to adding more capacity with flights to Milan and Turin, alongside more choice across Europe generally.”

Starting October 30, 2023, the carrier will also launch 12 weekly flights between London Heathrow and Cologne, Germany (CGN) with an Airbus A320/321 and return fares from £92 or £1 + 18,500 Avios. Additionally, British Airways will offer weekly winter flights between London Heathrow and Turin, Italy (TRN) on Sundays from December 10, 2023, with return fares from £120, complementing daily service from London Gatwick (LGW).
