On Tuesday (September 29, 2020), Embraer announced that Bamboo Airways has become the first Vietnamese operator of the E195. The aircraft joins the carrier’s fleet on wet-lease from Denmark based Great Dane Airlines. Utilizing the newly acquired aircraft, Bamboo Airways has launched the first jet service to Con Dao, with flights from Hanoi, Vinh and Hai Phong. Located of the southern coast of Vietnam, Con Dao is a popular tourist destination featuring an archipelago of 16 islands. Previously, due to its short runway, light pavement and lack of fuel provisions, Con Dao was only served by turboprop aircraft. In Tuesday’s announcement, Bamboo Airways’ Executive Vice Chairman, Mr. Dang Tat Thang, said,

“Bamboo Airways is proud to offer jet-operated flights to Con Dao with the E195s. The aircraft’s short runway performance makes it an ideal aircraft for flights to and from Con Dao. The two by two seating will offer our passengers a high level of comfort in a modern, spacious aircraft, including the one-of-its-kind Business Class on the route to Con Dao.”

Also commenting on Tuesday’s announcement, Embraer’s Vice President Commercial Aviation for the Asia Pacific region, Raul Villaron, added,

“Congratulations to Bamboo Airways on this strategic move. The E-Jets will give them great flexibility both in performance as well as in economics. The E195’s fuel efficiency and economics enables Bamboo Airways to cost effectively manage fluctuating demand and operate lower density routes with the right sized aircraft. We welcome Bamboo Airways to the Embraer family and our global team are here to support them.”

Bamboo Airways is the first carrier to offer direct service to Con Dao from three cities (Hanoi, Hai Phong and Vinh). The airline will offer twice-daily service between Hanoi and Can Dao as well as daily service to Can Dao from Hai Phong and Vinh.

Bamboo Airways was established in 2017 and serves over 51 domestic and international routes. The carrier is the first private Vietnamese airline dedicated to providing 5-star services with a focus on hospitality, and hopes to connect high-potential holiday destinations in Vietnam to the world. Bamboo Airways has transported 5 million passengers with an on-time performance of 96%, higher than any other carrier in Vietnam.
