Azerbaijan Airlines has today placed a firm order for 12 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft, including A320neos and A321neos. The order is part of AZAL’s fleet renewal strategy, and the engine choice will be announced at a later date.
On Thursday (April 6, 2023), Airbus announced that Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL), the national flag carrier of Azerbaijan, has placed a firm order for 12 Airbus A320neo Family aircraft, including A320neos and A321neos. The engine selection will be announced by the airline at a later date. The contract was signed at a ceremony held in Baku, Azerbaijan. AZAL currently operates a fleet of 15 Airbus aircraft including four A319ceos, six A320veos, two A340s and three A320neos.
In Thursday’s announcement, AZAL CJSC’s First Vice President, Samir Rzayev, said,
“We are pleased to continue mutually beneficial cooperation with Airbus on the modernization program of our fleet and intend to strengthen the bilateral partnership. The signed contract will provide our passengers with the most modern and comfortable single-aisle aircraft.”
Also commenting on the new order, Airbus’ Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International, Christian Scherer, said,
“This order marks an important milestone in the fruitful relationship between Airbus and Azerbaijan Airlines. The A320neo Family continues to be a top choice for airlines looking for fuel-efficient and cost-effective fleet solutions. This order is a testament to the trust our customers have in the performance and reliability of our aircraft. We are confident that this choice will further boost the sustainable growth of Azerbaijan Airlines.”
The Airbus A320neo Family incorporates the latest technologies, including new generation engines and sharklets, which combine to deliver at least a 20 percent reduction in fuel burn and emissions compared to the aircraft they replace. Having received approximately 8,700 orders from 135 customers, the A320neo Family is the world’s most popular aircraft.
