For winter 2024/25, Austrian Airlines will expand their schedule with new service to Ivalo in the Finnish Lapland, and will increase frequencies to Bangkok, New York, the Maldives and Montreal. Service to Boston introduced this summer will also continue for the winter season.

On Thursday (May 23, 2024), Austrian Airlines announced an expansion of their winter 2024/25 schedule with new service to Ivalo in the Finnish Lapland, as well as increased flight frequencies on popular routes such as Bangkok, New York, the Maldives and Montreal. Additionally, new summer 2024 destinations will be continued in winter, including service to Boston, Bremen, and Tbilisi. Austrian Airlines has reached a milestone in 2024, with the addition of two new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to their fleet. The new aircraft will allow the airline to increase frequencies to Bangkok from seven to up to 13 per week, and to New York, Montreal and the Maldives to five weekly flights each. The new Boston connection will also operate up to three times per week for the upcoming winter season.
In Thursday’s announcement, Austrian Airlines’ CCO, Michael Trestl, said,
“Our goal is to continuously expand our route network in order to be able to offer our guests a broad portfolio of destinations. We have succeeded in doing this in the winter flight schedule by adding Ivalo and continuing the new summer destinations in winter. On long-haul routes, it was important to us to serve Boston in winter as a first step and to fly to the destinations popular with our guests on a larger scale in order to return to pre-crisis levels in intercontinental traffic and offer attractive connections all over the world.”
In addition to the new route to Ivalo, Austrian will continue to serve Kittilä and Rovaniemi, which were added last year, for winter 2024/25. Ivalo serves as an ideal starting point for a dream winter holiday, and is popular with cross-country skiing fans. The region also offers several hundred kilometers of well-maintained trails, and winter activities such as sleigh rides, aurora snowmobile safaris, and more. During daylight hours, visitors can observe reindeer in their natural habitat, and can enjoy the spectacular northern lights at night. The Vienna-Ivalo route will operate once weekly on Saturdays from January through March.
