Austrian Airlines Expands Premium Economy on Entire Long-Haul Boeing 767 Fleet

Austrian Airlines is expanding their Premium Economy Class product, which will be available on the carrier’s entire Boeing 767 long-haul fleet starting in spring 2022. Premium Economy, which was introduced in 2018, will be expanded from 18 to 30 seats on each aircraft.

On Friday (October 15, 2021), Austrian Airlines announced that they will expand their Premium Economy Class product across their entire Boeing 767 long-haul fleet starting spring 2022. The carrier introduced Premium Economy in 2018, and will now expand the offer from the current 18 seats to 30 seats per aircraft. The conversion of the 767s will be carried out during the first quarter of 2022, and for summer 2022, the three class B767s will primarily serve destinations in North America. A primary feature of Premium Economy is a seat specially made for the Lufthansa Group, offering more legroom and comfort compared to Economy Class. Guests traveling in Premium Economy also enjoy two free pieces of checked baggage (up to 23kg), and an elevated onboard culinary experience with a three to four course menu.

In Friday’s announcement, Austrian Airlines’ CCO, Michael Trestl, said,

“As a genuinely Austrian airline, we carry 'Premium' in our hearts. With the expansion of the Premium Economy Class, we want to offer better travel comfort to even more passengers on long-haul routes. This travel class appeals to all those who want a bit more comfort and service on long-haul trips yet still want to fly on a price-conscious basis. This is how we want to make the travel experience for each passenger individually customizable and improved.”

In addition to more comfortable seats with a footrest, extra baggage allowance and a high-class dining experience, Austrian’s Premium Economy Class product offers several other features. Each seat includes a separate central armrest with fold-out table and cocktail table, a 12-inch IFE screen with remote control, a USB power port, a welcome drink and an amenity kit with useful travel accessories. Premium Economy seats can be booked via Austrian.com, with fares ranging between Business Class and Economy Class. For example, roundtrip flights between Vienna and New York start at €899, including taxes and fees.
