On Monday (June 16, 2025), Atlas Air Worldwide announced the introduction of their Miami Operations Gateway, with relocation to their new state-of-the-art cargo facility at Miami International Airport (MIA).  As Miami’s largest cargo operator, Atlas handles over 500,000 tons of freight annually.  The new, modern 250,000 square-foot facility is strategically situated along the airport’s perimeter.  The move to the new facility will enable Atlas to assume direct control over all warehouse functions and dedicates adjacent parking spaces, thereby streamlining cargo handling and improving efficiency across their operations.

In Monday’s announcement, Atlas Air Worldwide’s CEO, Michael Steen, said,

“As the largest freight operator at MIA, this expansion of our operations will add value to our customers globally and position us for continued success.  We have unmatched network capabilities to support growing markets and the high-volume trade lanes connecting MIA and South America to Asia and Europe.  Having dedicated aircraft parking, warehousing, and a world-class airside-cooler will further enable us to deliver superior services to our customers.  This move reaffirms our commitment to Southeast Florida, while creating jobs in the region.”

The expansive facility also includes a 124,000 square-foot perishable cooler warehouse, the largest on-airport cooler in North America, which also features direct ramp access.  Additionally, the facility is located to key MRO providers, which will reduce aircraft downtime. With its location adjacent to key MRO providers, aircraft downtime will be reduced.  By consolidating import and export operations in a single purpose-built site, Atlas is strengthening the logistics chain with unprecedented precision – from ramp to cooler to customer.

Atlas also maintain their Flight Training Center and a Commercial Marketing office in Miami.  The company employs nearly 800 team members across Florida, and generates even more jobs through indirect employment.
