ANA Holdings and All Nippon Airways Announce Senior Management Changes

ANA Holdings has announced that Koji Shibata, Senior Executive Vice President and Member of the Board, will succeed Shinya Katanozaka as President and CEO from April 1st, while Mr. Katanozaka will take over from Shinichiro Ito as Chairman of ANA HD.

On Thursday (February 10, 2022), ANA Holdings announced that Koji Shibata, Senior Executive Vice President and Member of the Board, will succeed Shinya Katanozaka as President and CEO from April 1st, 2022. On the same date, Mr. Katanozaka will take over from Shinichiro Ito as Chairman of ANA HD. Mr. Shibata (64) joined ANA in 1982 after graduating from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies with a degree in Foreign Studies. During 40 years with the Group, he has held a wide range of senior positions including VP of Alliances and International Affairs and SVP – Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) based in London. Currently as Senior Executive Vice President of ANA HD, he has led the transformation of the Group’s corporate strategy.

Mr. Katanozaka was appointed President and CEO of ANA HD in April 2015, and under his leadership, the company reported an operating profit and for the first time in eight quarters during the third quarter (October-December) of FY2021, despite the challenges of the ongoing pandemic.


Mr. Ito became the Chairman of ANA HD in April 2015, after previously serving as President and CEO of All Nippon Airways from April 2009 to March 2013, and as President and CEO of ANA HD from April 2013. He will continue to act as Senior Advisor to ANA HD.


In a separate announcment on Thursday (February 10, 2022), All Nippon Airways (ANA) announced that Shinichi Inoue, Senior Executive Vice President and Member of the Board, will succeed Yuji Hirako as President and CEO from April 1st, 2022. On the same date, Mr. Hirako will become Vice Chairman of ANA Holdings, Inc.


Mr. Inoue (63) graduated from Waseda University School of Law and joined ANA in 1990, starting his career in the Personnel Department. During over 30 years with the Group, he held multiple positions centered around Sales and Marketing, including a period of service in Beijing. Most notably, he set up Peach Aviation in 2011, Japan’s first LCC, and served as Peach’s CEO until 2020, when he became Senior Executive Vice President of ANA. Mr. Inoue currently serves as President of ANA X, Inc, while leading ANA’s Sales and Marketing Division.

Mr. Hirako was appointed president and CEO of All Nippon Airways (ANA) in 2017, and under his leadership the airline expanded its international network, while continuing to earn the highest 5-Star airline rating from SKYTRAX. During his tenure, the ANA Group achieved a record operating profit.


Founded in 1952, ANA serves 82 international and 118 domestic destinations from their dual Tokyo hubs at Narita and Haneda airports. The carrier has been a Star Alliance partner since 1999 and currently has joint partnerships with United Airlines, Lufthansa, SWISS and Austrian Airlines. The ANA Group also owns Japanese low-cost carrier (LCC) Peach Aviation Limited. ANA has approximately 43,000 employees and operates a fleet of 260 aircraft. Additionally, the carrier was the launch customer and is the largest operator of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner Family aircraft, and is the only Airbus A380 operator in Japan.
