All Nippon Airways (ANA) is taking their Boeing 787 Business Class product to new heights with the selection of ‘THE Room FX’ cutting edge Business seats with a privacy door by Safran Seats.

On Tuesday (June 17, 2025), from the Paris Air Show 2025, Safran announced that All Nippon Airways (ANA) has selected ‘THE Room FX’ supersized seats with a privacy door for Business Class on select Boeing 787 Dreamliners. Starting in 2026, the seat will be gradually introduced on ANA’s 787-9 long-haul routes, marking the carrier’s first Business Class seat refresh for mid-sized aircraft in a decade. This seat expands on ‘THE Room’ seats on the Boeing 777-300ER, with the addition of new and improved features. ‘The ROOM FX’ is the world’s largest seat in its class for a mid-sized aircraft.
In Tuesday’s announcement, ANA’s EVP – Customer Experience, Tomoji Ishii, said,
"THE Room FX, developed in partnership with French leading aircraft seat manufacturer Safran Seats and British design company Acumen, builds upon the success and design principles of the larger Boeing 777-300ER ‘THE Room’ seat, offering an unmatched customer experience. ANA is dedicated to providing the highest level of a customer experience and is investing in the future of the most advanced and comfortable travel with the new ‘THE Room FX’ seat. This seat represents our commitment to exceeding expectations and shaping the future of luxury flight.”
Also commenting on ANA’s 787-9 seat selection, Safran Seats’ President and CEO, Victoria Foy, said,
“At Safran Seats, we are proud to deepen our long-standing partnership with ANA through the launch of ‘THE Room FX’. This new business class seat represents a step-change in comfort, versatility, and innovative design for the Boeing 787-9. By combining our engineering expertise with ANA’s commitment to passenger excellence and Acumen’s creative vision, we are setting new benchmarks in the world of premium air travel.”
Acumen’s Founder and CEO, Ian Dryburgh, added,
“THE Room FX project is a result of a profound long-standing partnership between ANA, Acumen and Safran - shaped by years of trust, creativity and innovation. Building on the success and DNA of the ‘The Room’ B777, this next-generation suite elevates the flying experience with a rare balance of comfort, flexibility and elegant engineering. This is a refreshingly original and market leading Business Class product that we believe will exceed passengers’ expectations for many years to come.”

The ’FX’ in ‘THE Room FX’ stands for ‘Future Experience.’ The seating features a simplified mechanism that offers new comfort positions, more space for storage on the large side console, and best-in-class bed space for ultimate comfort and luxury. Building on the development of ‘THE Room’ Business Class seat introduced on the Boeing 777-300ER in 2019, ANA and Acumen pioneered a new concept for mid-sized aircraft. Following several years of development, from concept to commercialization, ANA, Acumen and Safran Seats collaborated to create this original seat exclusively for ANA.
A highly livable space, THE Room FX has been reconfigured with a thinner privacy door and walls, curved lines in the backrest area, and an alternating front and rear facing seat arrangement. This design optimizes the Boeing 787’s cabin, creating an experience comparable to a larger aircraft. The seats are also significantly wider than the current seat, and features a pre-reclining function that transforms the backrest into a sofa-like configuration, allowing passengers to relax in a variety of positions similar to lounging on a living room sofa. Additionally, adjustable leg rests allow the sofa-like configuration to be converted into a bed. Other improvements include a monitor 1.4 times larger than the current size, more storage space, USB-C and wireless charging facilities, and Bluetooth audio connectivity.
