With formal approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation last week, American Airlines will become the only U.S. carrier to offer nonstop service between New York-JFK and Tokyo Haneda effective June 28, 2024.
On Thursday (February 22, 2024), American Airlines announced that following formal approval from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) last week, they will become the exclusive U.S. carrier to offer nonstop service between New York (JFK) and Tokyo Haneda (HND). Starting June 28, 2024, the route will operate daily with a Boeing 777-200, and inbound customers to Tokyo can also enjoy seamless one-stop connectivity via Haneda with American’s joint business partner Japan Airlines to over 30 destinations, including Osaka, Sapporo and Fukuoka. Tickets will be available for purchase on the airline’s website or mobile app starting February 26, 2024.
In Thursday’s route announcement, American Airlines’ SVP – Network and Schedule Planning, Brian Znotins, said,
“American looks forward to launching flights between JFK and HND this summer. This new service will complement flights offered by our joint business partner, Japan Airlines, giving more ways for our customers travel between the U.S. and Japan.”
American’s new service will complement existing flights operated by their joint business partner, Japan Airlines, allowing customers to choose from up to three daily departures. The new route will be American’s fourth daily nonstop to Tokyo-Haneda, joining existing daily service from Dallas-Fort Worth, and double-daily service from Los Angeles (LAX). Combined, the joint business partnership between American Airlines and JAL will offer customers up to 17 daily flights between the continental U.S. and Japan for summer 2024.
