American Airlines to Add Five New European Routes for Summer 2025

In addition to resuming service to Edinburgh, Scotland for the first time since 2019, American Airlines will launch new service to Athens, Madrid, Milan Malpensa, and Rome Fiumicino for summer 2025.

On Thursday (September 5, 2024), American Airlines debuted their summer 2025 schedule which includes resumed service to Edinburgh, Scotland (EDI) for the first time since 2019, as well as new routes to Athens (ATH), Madrid (MAD), Milan (MXP) and Rome (FCO).  Tickets will be available for booking form September 9, 2024.  Next summer, customers traveling from Philadelphia (PHL) will be able to connect to 80 domestic and 17 trans-Atlantic destinations, including Edinburgh and Milan Malpensa.  Travelers from Miami (MIA) will also see new service to Rome Fiumicino (FCO).  The carrier is also launching new service between Charlotte, North Carolina (CLT) and Athens, Greece.   Additionally, for the first time, American will connect their Chicago (ORD) hub with Madrid.


 In Wednesday’s announcement, American Airlines’ SVP – Network and Schedule Planning, Brian Znotins, said,


“We look forward to providing customers more ways to visit their favorite destinations in Europe next summer.  Resuming service to Edinburgh and adding new routes to other popular destinations across the continent will offer customers convenient access from American’s industry-leading domestic network to all that Europe has to offer.”

In total, American Airlines will offer over 70 daily departures to more than 20 trans-Atlantic destinations in summer 2025.  The carrier will also resume summer 2024 flights to Copenhagen (CPH), Naples (NAP), and Nice (NCE) for the summer 2025 travel season.  Customers wishing to visit Paris can also do so from Miami, with winter 2024/25 service to the city of lights extending through next summer.

American will also increase capacity on four Asian routes for summer 2025, with more access to Tokyo and beyond and larger aircraft operating from Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and Los Angeles to Japan.  With codeshare flights by American’s partners, guests will also enjoy seamless one-stop connections to over 30 additional destinations across Japan and East Asia.
