American Airlines Nominates Kathryn Farmer to Board of Directors

American Airlines has announced the nomination of Kathryn Farmer to their Board. Ms. Farmer is currently the President and CEO of BNSF Railway, a position she has held since 2021.

On Thursday (April 17, 2025), American Airlines announced the nomination of Kathryn Farmer to their Board of Directors. If elected by the Board at the carrier’s AGM on June 11, 2025, Ms. Farmer will serve on the Board’s Finance Committee and Safety Committee. Since 2021, Farmer (55) has served as President and CEO of BNSF Railway. She began her career with Burlington Northern in 1992, and has held a variety of senior leadership roles over her 30+ years with the company.
In Thursday’s announcement, American Airlines’ Chairman, Greg Smith, said,
“We are very pleased to nominate Katie to the American Airlines board. Katie is a very well-respected leader who will bring significant, relevant and proven senior leadership experience to our company and our boardroom.”
Also commenting on the nomination, American’s CEO, Robert Isom, added,
“Katie is a tremendous leader who has held key operational and commercial roles during her time at BNSF. Her operational and marketing expertise and experience in a highly regulated industry will be important assets to American and our board.”
Before becoming President and CEO of BNSF Railway, Ms. Farmer served as the company’s EVP and Chief Operations Officer, where she led all operations, including train operations, maintenance, sourcing, safety and training. She also served as Group Vice President of Consumer Products, BNSF’s largest business unit. Kathryn Farmer serves on the boards of the American Association of Railroads, Texas Christian University, the American Heart Association (Southwest region), and the Fort Worth Economic Development Partnership. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration and MBA from Texas Christian University.
