American Airlines and Qantas Add More Flights Between Australia and the U.S.

American Airlines has announced the launch of new service between Los Angeles and Brisbane, complementing service operated by Qantas. American will also resume seasonal service between Dallas-Fort Worth and Brisbane with their newly-designed Boeing 787-9.

On Monday (May 5, 2025), American Airlines announced that along with Qantas, they are increasing connectivity between Australia and the U.S. American will launch new service between Los Angeles (LAX) and Brisbane (BNE), complementing service operated by Qantas, and will also resume seasonal service between Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) and Brisbane this October with their newly-designed Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. From DFW, Qantas will increase frequencies to Melbourne (MEL) in December and January, and will operate all daily services between DFW and Sydney (SYD) with an Airbus A380. Combined, American and Qantas will offer the mist comprehensive network between North America and Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific.
In Monday’s announcement, American Airlines’ Vice Chair and Chief Strategy Officer, Steve Johnson, said,
“American is proud to partner with Qantas to increase travel options for customers to Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne this winter. Together, we offer the most comprehensive service connecting the United States with Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. For our customers, this means more ways to plan vacations to visit friends and family or jet off for a new adventure in one of the most picturesque regions of the world.”
Also commenting on the network expansion, Qantas Group’s CEO of International, Cam Wallace, said,
“The strength of our partnership with American Airlines continues to bring great benefit to our customers around the world. We know Australia remains very popular with U.S. travelers, and these changes will provide increased connectivity onto our vast domestic network to some of Australia’s most unique destinations.”
From December 5, 2025, through the end of January 2026, American’s service between Los Angeles and Brisbane will operate three times weekly, while Qantas will increase operations to daily service between Dallas-Fort Worth and Melbourne from December 3, 2025, through the end of January 2026. Tickets for American’s new service between LAX and BNE will be available for purchase from May 12, 2025. As previously mentioned, American will also resume service between Dallas-Fort Worth and Brisbane starting October 26, 2025. The route will be operated with the carrier’s newly-designed Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner featuring 51 Flagship Suite® seats, as well as 32 Premium Economy seats.
