On Wednesday (October 13, 2021), American Airlines and JetBlue announced the expansion of their Northeast Alliance (NEA) with the launch of enhanced reciprocal loyalty benefits starting today. American AAdvantage and JetBlue TrueBlue Mosaic members will now enjoy priority check-in, priority baggage, priority security and priority boarding when traveling on either airline. Additionally, starting in November AAdvantage members will be able to redeem miles for JetBlue flights. In the coming months, the airlines also plan on introducing preferred seat selection. American Airlines’ AAdvantage loyalty program is the only loyalty program that allows for earning opportunities across three U.S. airlines, including American, JetBlue and Alaska Airlines.

In Wednesday’s announcement, American Airlines’ Chief Customer Officer, Alison Taylor, said,

“The Northeast Alliance (NEA) is moving ahead, implementing more consumer benefits that demonstrate our appreciation for our most loyal customers. Additional benefits such as preferred seats will be delivered in the coming months as our partnership with JetBlue continues to make good on our promise to provide more choices to travelers in the Northeast.”

Also commenting on the enhanced Northeast Alliance benefits, JetBlue’s Vice President of Loyalty and Personalization, Don Uselmann, said,

“We’re always looking for ways to make our customer experience consistently more seamless and enjoyable, which is why we’re extending some of our most loyal customers’ favorite perks to the experience when they travel on flights operated by our partner American. And with even more benefits coming online in the months ahead, we’re continuing to bring more value and versatility to both our Mosaic members and our TrueBlue flyers, further enhancing the overall TrueBlue program.”

Starting today, AAdvantage elite members will also receive up to two free checked bags when flying on JetBlue, while TrueBlue Mosaic members will receive the same benefit when flying with American Airlines. The new benefits are part of the NEA, the strategic partnership formed American and JetBlue in January 2020, with the goal of offering more choices and routes, as well as an enhanced travel experience across the complementary domestic and international networks of both airlines.

Since January 2021, the NEA has brought more service to customers in New York and Boston, including 58 new routes, increased frequencies on over 130 routes, and codesharing on 150 routes. The alliance also connects Northeast customers to nearly 150 global destinations, including 10 new international routes on American with service from New York (JFK) and Tel Aviv (TLV), Athens (ATH) and Delhi (DEL), which launches on October 31, 2021. Since the launch of the NEA, JetBlue has announced nine all-new destinations and 32 new routes enabled by the alliance.
