On Wednesday (April 12, 2021), Allegiant Airlines announced the expansion of their Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) base, as the carrier relocates to the airport’s new Terminal 1 on May 19, 2021. Allegiant has served the airport since 2009 and plans on adding a fourth based Airbus A320 at LAX starting this summer. The move and additional capacity will allow the leisure-focused airline to offer more direct flights to/from LAX for the busy summer travel season. Los Angeles has been a full aircraft and crew base for Allegiant since 2016.

In Wednesday’s announcement, Allegiant’s Senior Vice President of Planning and Revenue, Drew Wells, said,

“We see endless opportunity ahead to grow our operation at LAX, which continues to be our prime gateway to Southern California and the myriad attractions that keep visitors flocking to the coast. We're excited about the additional capacity and advanced infrastructure that the West Gates at Tom Bradley will bring, and look forward to offering our brand of affordable, convenient service to many more Los Angeles residents and visitors in years to come.”

Los Angeles World Airports’ CEO, Justin Erbacci, added,

“As travelers return to our airports, we are excited to have Allegiant grow its operation at LAX and base a fourth aircraft here starting this summer. We know their passengers and crew will love the state-of-the-art West Gates at Tom Bradley International Terminal, and we look forward to our continued partnership with Allegiant.”

Allegiant currently serves 33 cities in 21 states from LAX. The carrier is launching new service to Indianapolis from May 28th, Omaha and Rapid City from June 4th, and Shreveport starting July 2, 2021. Over half of the destinations served by Allegiant from Los Angeles are unique to the airline. Since launching flights from LAX in 2009, Allegiant has carried over 4.2 million passengers to and from the airport.

Founded in 1999, Las Vegas, Nevada-based Allegiant Travel Company (NASDAQ: ALGT) links passengers from small to medium cities to world-class leisure destinations with all non-stop flights and industry-low average fares. The company offers base airfares that are often half the price of a typical roundtrip ticket and operates an all-Airbus A320 Family fleet.
