On Tuesday (June 18, 2024), Alaska Airlines announced the launch of new seasonal service between Portland, Oregon (PDX) and New Orleans, Louisiana (MSY), which will operate daily from January 6th through May 14, 2025.  The seasonal route encompasses the world-famous Mardi Gras period, New Orleans’ largest annual celebration, and flights have been timed so guests can depart Portland in the morning to enjoy and afternoon in the ‘Big Easy’, and return to Portland in the evening.  Tickets are now available for booking on the carrier’s website for travel from January 6, 2025.  New Orleans will become Alaska’s 55th nonstop destination from Portland.

In Tuesday’s announcement, Alaska Airlines’ VP – Revenue Management and Network Planning, Kirsten Amrine, said,

“As the largest carrier in Portland for more than 20 years, it’s important we continue to expand the nonstop destinations we offer our guests and give them choices when planning their next trip.  We can’t wait to offer another convenient way to connect our guests along the West Coast to New Orleans, a city rich in history and culture.”

Also commenting on Alaska’s new route, Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport’s Director of Aviation, Kevin Dolliole, said,

“We are thrilled that Alaska Airlines is launching nonstop service from New Orleans to Portland.  Portland has been the top unserved destination from New Orleans, and this new route not only strengthens the connection between our vibrant cities but also underscores our commitment to enhancing the travel experience for our community and visitors alike.”

The Port of Portland’s Chief Aviation Officer, Dan Pippenger, added,

“Alaska’s continued investment in PDX is great news for our travel community.  Until now, New Orleans was one of the largest U.S. markets without a nonstop from PDX.  Tens of thousands of travelers already fly between these two great cities every year, and we expect that number to only grow with this new nonstop service.”
