On Wednesday (May 10, 2023), Alaska Airlines announced the expansion of onboard food and beverage options. Starting today, the carrier has increased their variety of food offerings, from doubling the number of main cabin pre-order options to five different First Class entrée choices. Additionally, Alaska has added a new family-friendly take on the classic peanut butter & jelly sandwich, without peanuts. The new ‘Jetsetter’s Jam’ sandwich is made instead with toasted cashew and oat butter and a homemade strawberry compote on a sweet croissant, paired with fresh fruit and a slice of Tillamook cheese. The sandwich is now available for purchase by pre-order in the main cabin on flights over 775 miles. A nut-free Kid’s Choice Picnic Pack is also available on all flights over 670 miles. Alaska guests can pre-order food from two weeks before their flights and up to 20 hours prior to departure in all cabins.

In Wednesday’s announcement, Managing Director of Guest Products, Todd Traynor-Corey, said,

“We’re always looking to spark joy with great food and drink on board our flights, delivering a delicious meal or craft beverage with care as part of our award-winning service. What our guests have to say is important, and they told us that more food and beverage variety would be great, so we set out to make that happen. We’ve worked hard to give our guests of all ages a wider selection of food, from classic comfort food to more healthful options all while representing the vibrant flavors of the West Coast.”

Alaska Airlines continues to offer freshly prepared meals in First Class on flights as short as 550 miles. Other U.S. carriers typically don’t offer fresh food on flights unless they’re longer than 900 miles. Alaska’s First Class guests also enjoy more vegan and gluten-free options available to reserve before their flight via the mobile app or websites. For main cabin customers, fresh and food is only available by pre-ordering.

The refreshed First Class offer includes a choice of up to five different entrees on coast-to-coast and Hawaii flights, and four options on most other flights. Breakfast options include choices such as the Beecher’s Mushroom Omelet, Chichen Sausage Breakfast Bowl and Lemon Blueberry pancakes. The lunch menu includes a Wedge Salad with Applewood Bacon, the Korean Barbeque Chicken Sandwich and a Caramelized Onion Angus Burger. New long-haul dinner options include Chimichurri Flat Iron Steak, Herb Roasted Chicken, Lemon Fennel Manicotti, and Ginger Stir-Fry Noodles. Alaska has also added Beecher’s Flagship Mac and Cheese as a classic comfort on certain flights. Additionally, on select flight from the San Francisco Bay Area, First Class guests can enjoy Alicia’s Pork Carnitas Tamale, which is handcrafted with organic ingredients.

First Class guests can also pre-order vegan options on all meal service flights, including choices such as a Harissa and Chorizo Frittata made with plant-based JUST Egg, a Spicy Tofu Wrap and a White Bean Chili with Grilled Polenta. As Alaska continues to elevate their guest experience, glassware will return on their regional Embraer E175 flights, and printed menus will return on transcontinental and Hawaii flights. For beverages, First Class guests can enjoy wines from Ste. Chappelle, as well as Fat Tire Amber Ale, and from July, Sierra Nevada Hazy Little Thing Hazy IPA and Schilling Hard Cider.

For main cabin guests, Alaska has more than doubled pre-order options for purchase, with a wider variety of selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with different choices for outbound and inbound flights. Main cabin breakfast options include a Turkey, Bacon & Tomato Bagel Sandwich and a Smoked Salmon Bagel Sandwich. Lunch and dinner options include two new salad choices, which have been designed in partnership with Evergreens Salad – the Stand Banh Mi and Strawberry Fields for Chevre. There are also two new wraps to enjoy, namely the Mediterranean Chicken Shawarma and Chicken Mango. On flights to/from Hawaii, Alaska is bringing back hot food with the return of their famous Tillamook cheeseburger, with more hot food choices planned for the future. The airline’s famous Signature Fruit and Cheese Platter and Fresh Start Protein Platters remain available, in addition to a wider variety of sandwiches and salads.
