Alaska Airlines has today announced the launch of new nonstop service between Seattle and Rome, the first time ever that Seattle will be connected directly to Rome. The Route will operate four times weekly with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner from May 2026.

On Tuesday (June 3, 2025), Alaska Airlines announced the launch of new nonstop service between Seattle (SEA) and Rome (FCO). This marks the first time in history that Seattle will be directly connected to ‘The Eternal City.’ Tickets will be available for purchase in fall 2025, with the inaugural flight schedule to take to the skies in May 2026. Flights will depart Seattle four times weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 18:00, arriving in Rome at 13:45+1. The return flights will depart Rome on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 15:35, and arrive back in Seattle at 18:00 (all times local).
In Tuesday’s announcement, Alaska Airlines’ CEO, Ben Minicucci, said,
Serving Rome nonstop from Seattle is a dream come true. As an Italian American whose parents emigrated from Italy, this is a particularly meaningful addition to our network. Rome has been at the top of the list ever since we announced our new global gateway out of Seattle. Our guests have been asking for an easy way to get to Italy for years, and we’re thrilled to provide it to people in the Northwest and beyond. Andiamo – let’s go!
Seattle Tacoma International Airport’s Chief Aviation Officer, Ivan Bassato, added,
“We are immensely proud that Alaska Airlines has chosen Rome as its first destination in Europe. This decision confirms the strategic relevance of our airport as a global hub for air connectivity. For the first time in history, Italy will be directly connected to Seattle, further strengthening ties with the U.S. West Coast and the broader Pacific region. Today, Fiumicino ranks among the leading European airports in terms of direct flights to North America, consolidating its key role in intercontinental traffic flows.”
With the Group expecting to receive a single operating certificate from the FAA in fall 2025, the new route will be served with a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner operated by Alaska Airlines, which will feature a new global experience. Rome will become Alaska’s third international route from Seattle joining Tokyo Narita, which launched on May 12th, and Seoul Incheon which starts on September 12th. Inbound guests from Italy will also enjoy seamless one-stop connectivity via Seattle to 104 destinations across North America, including one of the most direct routes to the Hawaiian Islands.
