On Tuesday (June 29, 2021), Alaska Airlines announced the launch of a new codeshare partnership with fellow oneworld partner Qatar Airways. During phase one, starting July 1st, 2021, Qatar Airways’ guests will be able to book seamless connections across 150 routes on Alaska’s network. During phase two, which will be rolled out in the coming months, Alaska Airlines’ guests will be able to book seamless connections from Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle to the Qatar Airways global network via Doha. Qatar Airways currently offers double daily flights to Los Angeles and daily flights to San Francisco and Seattle.

In Tuesday’s announcement, Alaska Air Group’s CEO, Ben Minicucci, said,

“We're thrilled to be a part of this evolving partnership with Qatar Airways, one of the world's premier airlines. As international air travel resumes, it's important to provide our guests with easier, more convenient travel options to get out and see distant places again. Qatar Airways’ nonstop flights from our hubs in Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles to Doha and points beyond offers our guests tremendous opportunities to visit nearly any country they want.”

Also commenting on the expanded partnership, Qatar Airways Group’s Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, said,

“We are proud to advance our commercial cooperation with Alaska Airlines and we welcome the newest member of the oneworld alliance to Qatar Airway’s list of strategic partners. This agreement, combined with our existing partnerships, will help consolidate our presence in the region and provide Qatar Airways passengers travelling to and from our 12 U.S. gateways with access to the most comprehensive network of seamless connections across the United States. As we expand services to Alaska’s key hubs of Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles, we look forward to implementing the next phase of this strategic partnership and welcoming on board Alaska Airlines passengers as we connect them to our global network of over 140 destinations via the Best Airport in the Middle East, Hamad International Airport.”

Alaska Airlines and Qatar Airways launched their partnership on December 15, 2020, allowing the carrier’s Mileage Plan members to earn miles while traveling on Qatar Airways. When Alaska Airlines joined oneworld on March 31, 2021, they expanded the partnership with Qatar Airways allowing reciprocal benefits including preferred seat selection, priority check-in, security and boarding, mutual lounge access and extra baggage allowance. Qatar Airways has been a member of the oneworld global alliance since 2013.

During the first phase of the expanded partnership, starting July 1st, 2021, Qatar Airways’ guests will be able to easily connect to over 150 Alaska airlines network destinations, including Portland, Las Vegas, San Diego, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, Denver, San Jose, Anchorage and Vancouver. The second phase will be rolled out in the coming months, allowing Alaska Airlines’ guests to book flights on Qatar Airways to Doha and beyond to destinations in Africa, the Middle east and South Asia.
