On Thursday (February 15, 2024), Airbus reported their financial results for the fourth quarter and full year for the period ending December 31, 2023. The company reported a fourth quarter net profit of €1.46 billion or €1.85 per share on an 11 percent year-over-year increase in revenue to €22.9 billion. Airbus’ consolidated order book at the end of 2023 was valued at €554 billion, up from €449 billion at year-end 2022.
In Thursday’s announcement, Airbus’ Chief Executive Officer, Guillaume Faury, said,
“In 2023 we recorded strong order intake across all our businesses and we delivered on our commitments. This was a significant achievement given the complexity of the operating environment. We will continue to invest in our global industrial system, while progressing on our transformation and decarbonisation journey. Our dividend proposals are a reflection of the strong 2023 financials, our growth prospects in 2024 and balance sheet strength.”
During 2023, Airbus booked 2,319 gross commercial aircraft orders and 2,094 net orders, and ended the year with an order backlog of 8,598 commercial aircraft. The company also delivered a total of 735 commercial aircraft in 2023, including 68 A220s, 571 A320 Family, 32 A330s and 64 A350s. Adjusted EBIT related to Airbus commercial aircraft activities increased to €4.82 billion, up from €4.6 billion during FY 2022, reflecting higher deliveries, partially offset by operational investments.
Airbus continues to ramp-up A220 production towards a monthly production rate of 14 aircraft in 2026. The company’s A320 Family production is progressing towards the rate of 75 aircraft monthly by 2026. For widebody aircraft, Airbus continues towards an A330 monthly production rate in 2024, and a rate of 10 A350s per month in 2026. In 2023, Airbus commenced construction of the second A320 Final Assembly Lines (FAL) in Tianjin, China and Mobile, Alabama (U.S.), while the new A320 Family FAL in Toulouse delivered its first aircraft in December. Additionally, the first customer A321XLR entered the FAL in December 2023, and is expected to enter service during Q3 2024.
At December 31, 2023, Airbus had a consolidated net cash position of €10.7 billion, up from €9.4 billion at year-end 2023. The company’s Board will propose a 2023 dividend of €1.80 per share, plus a special dividend of €1.00 per share at the 2024 AGM, which will take place on April 10, 2024, with a proposed payment date of April 18, 2024.
