On Monday (April 25, 2022), AirAsia announced the restart of service between Kuala Lumpur and Siem Reap in Cambodia, with flight AK540 departing Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 13:05 and arriving in Siem Reap at 14:40 with 109 passengers. The return flight will depart Siem Reap at 14:55 and expected to touch down in Kuala Lumpur at 18:10 (all times local). Cambodia is one of the first countries in the region to reopen travel for international visitors, with the Royal Government of Cambodia reopening borders to fully-vaccinated travelers on November 15, 2021, without the need for quarantine or COVID-19 testing.
In Monday’s announcment, AirAsia Malaysia’s CEO, Riad Asmat, said,
“Following our recent return to Cambodia’s capital Phnom Penh, we are thrilled to launch more flights to another major city in the country ‒ Siem Reap. Cambodia remains a core market for AirAsia. Prior to COVID-19, Siem Reap was one of the most popular destinations in Asean as a key tourist hub for globetrotters from all over the world. AirAsia started the route in 2018 and flew close to 170,000 passengers in 2019. We are confident that these new services will continue to be very popular in the future. In response to strong demand, we are also planning more flights and destinations in Cambodia with services to Sihanoukville scheduled to take flight on 2 June.
“AirAsia welcomes the initiatives taken by the Cambodian government to ease travel restrictions to allow more seamless travel to Cambodia. We look forward to flying more leisure seekers from near and far to the country soon.”
Siem Reap is a picturesque tourist favorite known for its carefully preserved ruins dating back to the Khmer Empire in the 15th Century. Flights on the Kuala Lumpur to Siem Reap route will operate twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays. To celebrate the route restart, the carrier is offering one-way fares from RM149 through May 1st for travel from now until September 11, 2022. Tickets are also available from September 12, 2022 until March 25, 2023 from only RM129 one-way.
