Air Niugini has welcomed their fourth Q400, now De Havilland Canada (DHC) Dash 8-400. The aircraft acquisition was funded by the National Government with support of Kumul Consolidated Holdings.

On Monday (October 21, 2024), Air Niugini announced the delivery of their fourth De Havilland Canada DHC Dash 8-400, which touched down in Port Moresby on Saturday, October 19th. The approximately $7.0 million aircraft purchase was fully funded by the National Government through the Public Investment Program (PIP) with support from Kumul Consolidated Holdings (KCH). Upon arrival at Jacksons Airport in Port Moresby, the aircraft was welcomed with a traditional water cannon salute. The new aircraft, registration PXT, is expected to enter passenger revenue service by November.
In Monday’s announcement, Air Niugini’s CEO, Mr. Gary Seddon, said,
“This aircraft will play a crucial role in improving our operating efficiency and schedule reliability on domestic routes. The advanced technology and versality are ideally suited for our operation needs, ensuring Air Niugini continues to provide safe, efficient, and reliable services to the people of Papua New Guinea.”
“I would like to extend our sincere thanks to the government, particularly our Hon. Minster for State Owned Enterprises William Duma for championing this program as well as chairman and managing director and the team at KCH for their unwavering support in making this possible.”

The newly delivered aircraft if the fourth DHC Dash 8-400 in the Air Niugini fleet, as the carrier is looking to replace their older Dash 8 classics. The DHC Dash 8-400 can carry up to 76 passengers, around 30 more than the Dash 8 classics it replaces.
