During the world’s largest sporting event in Paris this summer, Air France will double all purchases of SAF by matching voluntary customer contributions. This means that if a traveler contributes DKK 200 (US $29), Air France will match the same amount.
On Friday (May 24, 2024), Air France announced that from July 19th through September 9, 2024, they will match all voluntary customer sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) contributions. As the world travels to Paris for the games, Air France will double all purchases of SAF. For example, if a traveler contributes DKK 200 (US $29), Air France will match the same amount.
In Friday’s announcement, Air France-KLM’s team member responsible for sustainability issues for Northern Europe, Maria Hagelberg, said,
“Since 2022, we have offered all our customers to add SAF, Sustainable Aviation Fuel to the ticket, which can be done both online and via the app. We want to make our customers aware of this through this doubling, while at the same time we hope it will stimulate more people to take the step to add SAF. Every penny will be invested in the purchase of SAF.
During 2023, for the second year in a row, the Air France-KLM Group was the world’s largest SAF user, having used 16 percent of all available SAF, nearly double versus 2022. This represents a total mix of approximately 1.0 percent, up from 0.6 percent in 2022. The Group’s goal is to reduce CO2 emissions by 30 percent per passenger kilometer by 2030, compared to 2019 levels. The goal is to use a total of 10 percent SAF by 2030, exceeding the EU mandate to use 6.0 percent SAF by the same year.
