On Tuesday (August 26, 2025), Air France announced the delivery of their 46th Airbus A220, which arrived on Monday (August 25th) in Paris from the Airbus Facility in Mirabel, Canada. The milestone ferry flight marked the first time the type was delivered with a blend of 50 percent Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) certified directly by Airbus. On a lifecycle basis, SAF reduces CO2 emissions by at least 65 percent compared to conventional fossil-based jet fuel.
Air France-KLM Group is one of the world’s top three users of SAF. The Group also applies a strict sourcing policy, using only sustainable fuels that do not compete with human food, do not contribute to deforestation, and are not produced from palm oil. In another joint initiative, Air France-KLM and Airbus have reached an agreement allowing Airbus employees to reduce the carbon footprint of their business travel by supporting the production of SAF. This is part of Air France-KLM’s ‘SAF Corporate’ program, which allows the financing and purchase of SAF. Since their commitment to the program in November 2023, Airbus has reduced their CO2 emissions by more than 2,000 tonnes through the purchase of over 670 tonnes of SAF.
Air France-KLM’s fleet renewal is a key pillar in the Group’s transformation strategy. In this regard, the Airbus A220 Family delivers a 20 percent reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to previous generation aircraft. Air France-KLM has nearly 200 new generation aircraft on firm order, including A220s, A320neos, A321neos, A350s and Boeing 787 Dreamliners. In 2024 alone, the Group took delivery of 41 new generation aircraft, and will continue to invest over €2 billion annually to ensure that by 2030 up to 80 percent of the Group’s fleet will be comprised of new generation aircraft.
