On Wednesday (March 31, 2021), Air Canada announced a further extension of Aeroplan Elite Status and added flexibility for all members. The changes include an extension of Elite Status until the end of 2022, as well as the possibility to accelerate status qualification in future years. This is the second year Air Canada has extended status for Aeroplan Elite members. The carrier is also extending the validity of all unused Priority Reward vouchers issued in 2020 by another full year, extending their use until October 2022. Elite Status members can also jumpstart their 2022 qualification based on 2021 flight activity. The Status Qualifying Miles, Segments and Dollars earned in 2021, will now be honored the next year.

In Wednesday’s announcement, Air Canada’s Senior Vice President – Products, Marketing and eCommerce, Mark Nasr, said,

“Loyalty is a two-way street, and we understand and appreciate why so many of your travel plans are interrupted this year. For that reason, we are automatically extending Aeroplan Elite Status for an additional year—through to the end of 2022. These changes are some of the many ways we're recognizing our members and demonstrating our commitment to welcoming them back onboard, whenever it's the right time for them to travel again.”

The improvements announced today are in addition the other changes made to benefit all Aeroplan members. Aeroplan flight rewards booked through April 30, 2021, for travel through April 2022, can now be changed or canceled free of charge. Customers who cancel flight rewards travel will now receive all their Aeroplan points back into their account, plus a full refund of any associated taxes, fees and surcharges on the unused value of their travel. Additionally, Air Canada has temporarily paused the expiration of Aeroplan points until January 31, 2022. This means that all points that were set to expire between now and January 30, 2022 will remain valid. After that date, points will expire if an eligible transaction has not been completed in the interim.
