Air Canada Expands Inflight Entertainment With Apple TV+

Air Canada has added Apple TV+ to their inflight entertainment programming, becoming the first Canadian and second airline globally offering the critically-acclaimed original programming onboard.

On Tuesday (August 1, 2023), Air Canada announced the addition of Apple TV+ to their award-winning inflight entertainment (IFE) programming. With the new partnership, Air Canada becomes the first Canadian airline and second carrier globally to offer Apple TV+, with critically-acclaimed original programming such as Ted Lasso, Bad Sisters, Severance and Foundation, among others. The airline’s IFE system offers more then 2,500 hours of movies, TV shows, podcasts and music, along with live TV news and sports. Earlier this year, Air Canada was recognized by Global Traveler as 'Best Airline for Onboard Entertainment' for the fifth consecutive year, and also received the APEX Passenger Choice Award for 'Best Entertainment in North America.'


In Tuesday’s announcement, Air Canada’s Managing Director of Product Design, John Moody, said,


“At Air Canada, we know that inflight entertainment is an important part of our customers’ travel journey, particularly on long-haul flights. We continually evaluate opportunities to expand our entertainment and introduce exclusive, current content that our customers will love. We look forward to welcoming customers onboard to catch up on their favourite Apple TV+ shows or discover new hits during their flight. This new partnership with Apple puts us on track to increase our onboard entertainment content by more than 95 per cent since last year. We look forward to introducing even more entertainment before the end of 2023.”


The new Apple partnership follows Air Canada’s recently announced collaboration with Mattel, bringing more family fun programming onboard. In November 2022, the carrier also became the only Canadian airline to offer live Canadian TV featuring English and French channels, allowing guests to enjoy global sporting events and live news onboard equipped aircraft. Additionally, In May 2023, Air Canada and Bell began offering free messaging for all Aeroplan members onboard Wi-Fi equipped aircraft worldwide. Guests can send and receive text messages using popular messaging apps such as Apple’s iMessage, and others.

The Canadian flag carrier is a founding member of the Star Alliance and the only international network carrier in North America to receive a Four-Star ranking from Skytrax. Air Canada provides scheduled passenger service to 180 airports in Canada, the United States, and internationally on six continents. Through the carrier’s Aeroplan loyalty program, customers can earn and redeem points on the world’s largest airline partner network of 45 airlines. Air Canada Cargo offers air freight lift and connectivity to hundreds of destinations across six continents with a dedicated fleet of 767-300 Freighters and passenger aircraft belly hold capacity. Additionally, the airline has committed to a net zero emissions goal from all global operations by 2050.
