On Monday (June 21, 2021), Aeroflot announced that they have received a prestigious Red Dot Award for their onboard service tableware, designed by Mikhail Chistiakov and Yulia Chistiakova. The Red Dot awards are presently annually at the design centre at Essen, Germany. As part of the International Red Dot Design Awards 2021, Aeroflot’s ‘Skopkar’ design concept won the award in the Tableware category. The panel of judges included celebrated designers from around the world, who appreciated the tableware's sense of style, demonstrating the strength of the leading Russian Airline’s inflight catering offer.

The entire ‘Skopkar’ Tableware line was recognized, including porcelain, cutlery, glassware, textiles and paper products. The new design was rolled out across the Aeroflot fleet by late 2019 and is now available on all flights. The Red Dot Award judges emphasized the perfectly balanced tableware concept designed to meet the needs of modern civil aviation, such as style continuity, compact size and functionality. The experts further emphasized that Aeroflot’s tableware encompassed a contemporary reinterpretation of tradition Russian table culture. The design is based on the image of a colorful traditional Russian wooden spoon called a skopkar, which has been transformed into an elegant metal spoon, preserving its distinctive tip.

The Red Dot Award program is an international design competition established by the North Rhine – Westphalia Design Centre at Essen. The prestigious awards recognize designers and manufacturers for the best consumer product designs. The winning designs will be included in the Red Dot Design Yearbook and will be exhibited in a design gallery in Essen.
