On Friday (April 2, 2021), Aeroflot launched regular weekly service to the Seychelles, which will be increased to twice-weekly service from April 11, 2021, with the route operating of Fridays and Sundays. The Moscow-Mahe-Moscow flights will be operated with Wi-Fi and inflight entertainment (IFE) equipped Boeing 777-300ERs. Aeroflot’s Economy Class load factor on the first flight to the Seychelles yesterday (April 2nd) was a robust 99 percent.

With a constant year-round temperature of around 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit) the Seychelles is one of the world’s most popular leisure getaways. The archipelago is in the western Indian Ocean near the east coast of Africa and includes 115 islands, of which only 33 are inhabited. The destination attracts beach lovers, tranquility seekers and foodies, who enjoy the Seychelles’ famous Creole cuisine.

To celebrate the inaugural launch of the route on Friday, Aeroflot created a Seychelles-inspired atmosphere at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO) for guests traveling to Mahe. The customers were surrounded by large screens displaying giant tortoises and a show was performed next to the check-in counters featuring performers in traditional Creole costumes dancing and singing national songs. Guests were also treated to a welcome drink and special desserts were prepared for the inaugural flight.

Upon arrival in Mahe, the flight was greeted with a traditional water canon salute and a press conference was held with dignitaries including Artem Kozhin, The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Seychelles, Aeroflot’s Marketing Director, Anton Myagkov, representatives of the Seychelles Ministry of Tourism and aviation authorities. A ceremonial ribbon red ribbon was cut to the accompaniment of an orchestra, symbolically opening the route for the Russian flag carrier.

Aeroflot is the flag carrier of Russia and a proud member of the global SkyTeam® alliance. During 2020, Aeroflot carried 14.6 million guests and when the Aeroflot Group subsidiaries are included, the total rises to 30.2 million passengers. The airline holds a 4-Star rating from Skytrax World Airline Awards and has been awarded a five-star global airline rating by APEX. According to Cirium’s On-Time Performance Review, Aeroflot was the world’s most on-time mainline airline for 2019. The carrier has also received a five-star rating from OAG for flight punctuality. In 2020, Brand Finance, a leading brand strategy consultancy, declared Aeroflot the strongest brand in Russia, as well as the “world’s strongest airline brand.”
