Wizz Air Expands Venice Service, Adds Fourth Based Aircraft

Wizz Air has expanded their Venice base with five new routes and a fourth based aircraft.  The new Airbus A321neo will add 500,000 new seats annually and create new employment opportunities.

On Thursday (March 12, 2026), Wizz Air, the second largest airline in Italy by market share, announced thay they are further strengthening their presence in Venice and, together with SAVE Group, announced a new phase of development for their base at Venice Marco Polo Airport.  During a joint press conference on Thursday, Salvatore Gabriele Imperiale, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air, and Camillo Bozzolo, Aviation Development Director at SAVE Group, confirmed the arrival of a fourth Airbus A321neo in Venice from September 2026.  With the added capacity, Wizz will also launch five new routes rom Venice, including service to Bilbao and Malaga from September 14th, Alicante and Seville from September 15th, and Naples from December 1, 2026.


In Thursday’s announcement, Wizz Air’s Corporate Communications Manager, Salvatore Gabriele Imperiale, said,


“Venice is a unique city in the world, and today’s announcement of a fourth aircraft based here is the result of the strong collaboration built over the years with the airport and the local community.


This expansion reflects the strong ties we have developed with the Veneto region and the entire North-East of Italy.  It is a dynamic and constantly evolving territory that has recently been in the global spotlight thanks to the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympic Games, and we are proud to contribute to its connectivity through new routes, increased capacity and new employment opportunities.  Venice represents a strategic base for us, from which we will continue to offer passengers more choice and competitive fares while supporting the economic and tourism development of the region. Let’s WIZZ, Venice!”

Also commenting on Wizz Air’s Venice expansion, SAVE Group’s Aviation Development Director, Camillo Bozzolo, said,


“We are very pleased to see Wizz Air continue its growth trajectory at Venice Marco Polo Airport with the arrival of the fourth based aircraft.  This investment represents a further step in the development of the airline’s Venice base and demonstrates the strong potential of our catchment area.  The introduction of five new routes, with particular focus on the Spanish market, will significantly expand the airport’s international connectivity, offering new travel opportunities for passengers in North-East Italy while also strengthening tourism flows to Venice and the Veneto region.”

With the new routes, Wizz Air will now operate a total of 26 routes from Venice to 16 countries, further strengthening the international connectivity of Venice Airport.  Currently, customers departing from Marco Polo Airport can fly to numerous destinations across Europe and the Mediterranean, including Yerevan (Armenia), Larnaca (Cyprus), Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt) and Tallinn (Estonia). The network also extends to key cities such as Bordeaux in France, Kutaisi in Georgia, Athens in Greece and Budapest in Hungary, in addition to connections to Kraków and Warsaw in Poland, Craiova and Iași in Romania, and London Luton in the United Kingdom.


Wizz Air’s Venice network also includes flights to Tel Aviv in Israel, Skopje in North Macedonia and Chișinău in Moldova, complemented by a well-established presence in Spain with routes to Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia, along with domestic connections to Catania and Palermo.  The expansion in Venice forms part of Wizz Air’s broader growth strategy in Italy. In 2026, the airline plans to offer 27 million seats in the country, operating with a fleet of 35 aircraft based across its six Italian bases in Catania, Naples, Rome, Palermo, Milan and Venice. Overall, Wizz Air’s Italian network includes 284 routes to 33 countries.
