Wizz Air Announces Bulgaria Expansion with a New Aircraft and Seven New Routes from Sofia

Wizz Air has announced the expansion of their base in Sofia with a seventh aircraft and seven new routes including service to Prague, Turin, Lamezia Terme, Chișinău, Palma de Mallorca, Marrakesh and Warsaw.

On Wednesday (August 6, 2025), Wizz Air announced a major expansion in Sofia, Bulgaria with a seventh based aircraft and seven new routes.  Starting 2025, the new direct flights will connect Sofia with Prague (Czech Republic), Turin and Lamezia Terme (Italy), Chișinău (Moldova), Palma de Mallorca (Spain), Marrakesh (Morocco) and Warsaw (Poland).  Tickets on the new routes are now bookable from 38.99 BGN (T&Cs apply).  With the expansion, Wizz Air’s total capacity from Sofia Airport will increase by up to 1.29 million seats annually, over 100,000 more than their current capacity.


Speaking at Wednesday’s press conference at Sofia Airport, Wizz Air’s Commercial Officer – Central and Eastern Europe and the Middle East, said,


“The expansion of our base in Sofia with another aircraft and seven new routes is a significant step in our long-term development strategy in Bulgaria and the region.  The capital is solidifying its role as a key hub in Wizz Air’s network, and we are proud to offer Bulgarian passengers an even greater selection of affordable, convenient, and sustainable travel options to exciting destinations across Europe and beyond.  We are confident that these new routes will meet growing demand for flexible and budget-friendly travel and will further strengthen market position in Bulgaria.”


Also commenting in Wizz Air’s expansion, Sofia Airport’s CEO, Jesus Caballero, added,

In addition to the new routes, Wizz Air is also increasing frequencies on four routes from Sofia, including service to Barcelona, Hamburg, Milan-Bergamo, and Basel.
