Today (July 26, 2021), WestJet announced an expansion of their long-standing codeshare partnership with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines. The carrier will place their ‘WS’ code on KLM operated flights from Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport (AMS) to 18 European destinations in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Spain and the United Kingdom. The expanded partnership builds on WestJet’s new nonstop Boeing 787 Dreamliner service between Calgary and Amsterdam, providing greater connectivity for guests traveling between Canada and Europe to points on both sides of the Atlantic.

In Monday’s announcement, WestJet’s Chief Commercial Officer, John Weatherill, said,

“Through this expanded codeshare relationship with KLM our guests will benefit from new opportunities to travel between Europe and Canada. Our Dreamliner service to Amsterdam combined with convenient connections on a world-class partner like KLM is an exciting step as we work to support the safe restart of international travel.”

Also commenting on the expanded codeshare partnership, Travel Alberta’s CEO, David Goldstein, said,

“This is an exciting development for inbound travel and tourism to Alberta from key European markets via Amsterdam. Rebuilding these targeted international air links is critical to the province's economic recovery. We look forward to working with WestJet to re-establish Alberta's competitiveness as a business and leisure destination emerging from the pandemic.”

WestJet’s inaugural twice-weekly service between Amsterdam (AMS) and Calgary (YYC) is set to commence on August 5, 2021 and will increase to three-times weekly from September 9, 2021. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner service will feature WestJet’s Business Cabin including lie-flat pods, dining on demand, and the airline’s award-winning service.

Celebrating 25 years of service, WestJet has cut airfares for Canadians in half and increased the flying population around Canada by over 50 percent. The airline launched in 1996 with three aircraft, 250 employees and five destinations, and has now grown to more than 180 aircraft and 14,000 employees, offering service to 100 destinations in 23 countries (pre-pandemic). Even during these unprecedented times, the carrier has maintained their rating by Cirium as one of the top ten airlines for on-time performance in North America.
