WestJet has today announced that they will add two additional Boeing 737-8 MAX airplanes to their growing fleet, with one on lease from Aviation Capital Group, and the other on lease from High Ridge Aviation.
On Tuesday (June 18, 2024), WestJet Group announced that they will expand their growing fleet with two additional Boeing 737-8 MAX jets, one on lease from Aviation Capital Group, and the other on lease from High Ridge Aviation. Both aircraft are expected to be integrated into the carrier’s operating fleet in 2024. This is in addition to the four leased Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft the Group announced earlier this month, with three on lease from BOC Aviation Limited, and the other on lease from AerDragon.
In Tuesday’s announcement, WestJet Group’s EVP and Chief Financial Officer, Mike Scott, said,
“In partnership with Aviation Capital Group and High Ridge Aviation, we are thrilled to add these aircraft to our Boeing 737 MAX family, as we further reaffirm our mission of providing affordable air travel to Canadians. Today's fleet additions are critical to the execution of our ambitious growth strategy as we work to provide more critical air access to Canadians.”
Also commenting on the new lease agreement, Aviation Capital Group’s VP – Marketing, Alan Mangels, said,
“ACG is proud to expand its partnership with WestJet and to partake in its ambitious growth plans. The addition of this latest technology aircraft will not only support WestJet's growth objectives but will also do so in an environmentally friendly and fuel-efficient way.”
High Ridge Aviation’s CEO, Greg Conlon, added,
“We’re pleased to support the fleet needs of our long-time friends at WestJet, where our team's connections date back a quarter century. Our highly experienced team and extensive relationships throughout the industry enable us to skillfully manage our fleet.”
As with the previously leased aircraft, WestJet’s new 737-8 MAX jets won’t immediately reflect the carrier’s interior cabin experience, but will be updated and refreshed as part of WestJet’s existing fleet reconfiguration plans, to ensure a consistent guest experience.
With 28 years of service, WestJet has cut airfares for Canadians in half and increased the flying population around Canada by over 50 percent. The airline launched in 1996 with three aircraft, 250 employees and five destinations, and has now grown to more than 180 aircraft and 14,000 employees, offering service to over 100 destinations in 26 countries.
