On Monday (October 31, 2022), WestJet announced the launch of inaugural service between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Los Angeles with flight WS1315 taking off from Winnipeg at 07:00 this morning. Service on the approximately four hour flight will operate three times weekly year-round on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays. Flights will depart Winnipeg at 07:00 and arrive in Los Angeles at 08:50 (all times local).

In today’s announcement, WestJet’s Chief Commercial Officer, John Weatherill, said,

“With a thriving film and television industry, our Manitoban guests and partners have long awaited this integral connection and will benefit substantially from convenient flights between both cities. As the only airline providing direct connectivity between Winnipeg and Los Angeles, this route not only supports our efforts to bolster the economic success of the communities we serve but provides a vital link that will stimulate new business, investment and tourism opportunities.”

Also commenting on the new service, Winnipeg Airports Authority’s President & CEO, Nick Hays, said,

“The excitement surrounding this new, non-stop route between Winnipeg and Los Angeles has been building ever since it was announced a few months ago. Not only does it significantly enhance the connectivity of the region we serve, but it's also meaningful for our local economy, particularly the province's thriving film industry. We're ecstatic to help bring this valuable route to Winnipeg Richardson International Airport and are proud to see our longstanding partnership with WestJet continue to grow to benefit all Manitobans.”

This winter, WestJet will offer more nonstop routes from Winnipeg than any other carrier with 22 direct routes, an 80 percent increase compared to 2021. Additionally, WestJet guests traveling to Los Angeles will also enjoy seamless onward connections to 20 additional U.S. cities via the carrier’s codeshare partnership with Delta Air Lines. Eligible guests will also have access to Delta’s LAX SkyClub lounge.

In 26 years of service, WestJet has cut airfares for Canadians in half and increased the flying population around Canada by over 50 percent. The airline launched in 1996 with three aircraft, 250 employees and five destinations, and has now grown to more than 180 aircraft and 14,000 employees, offering service to over 110 destinations in 23 countries (pre-pandemic).
