On Monday (September 12, 2022), Viva Aerobus announced the launch of new co-branded credit cards in partnership with HSBC and Mastercard. The new ‘HSBC Viva’ credit cards feature valuable benefits, including the ability to defer payments with no interest when purchasing flights with Viva. Other benefits include priority boarding and access to the Mastercard lounges at Mexico City International Airport. Cardholders will also enjoy expanded benefits with Doters, Viva Aerobus’ recently launched loyalty program. With the HSBC Viva card, Doters members can receive up to four free reward flights during the first year, anniversary Doters points, and additional points on purchases with Viva.

In Monday’s announcment, HSBC México’s President and CEO, Jorge Arce, said,

“Travel represents 8% of the purchases made with credit cards in Mexico. For this reason, this alliance with Viva Aerobus is strategic, as it is the second largest airline in the Mexican domestic market with over 15 million passengers in 2021. Working as a team, we will be able to support people's interest in traveling and in living new and pleasant experiences, especially in a year when credit cards and travel are reviving.”

Also commenting on the new co-branded credit card launch, Viva Aerobus’ CEO, Juan Carlos Zuazua, said,

“16 years ago, Viva Aerobus revolutionized the way of flying thanks to our ultra-low-cost business model, making traveling by plane available to more people. Today, with HSBC, a leading financial institution with international presence, we strengthen this commitment with a credit card that makes air travel even easier. Our passengers can enjoy every trip to the fullest, with great benefits, low fares, non-stop flights, and the newest fleet in Mexico.”

Mastercard México’s Country manager, Mauricio Schwartzmann, added

“At Mastercard we want our cardholders to enjoy a safe, easy and convenient shopping experience that also offers multiple benefits in their day-to-day activities. Thanks to the collaboration with HSBC and Viva Aerobus, we are adding new partners to our family of shared brands while we continue to make available to the market a value proposition focused on the tourism sector that brings a series of benefits for consumers when planning a trip, thus improving their quality of life and financial security.”

Two co-branded credit cards are available, the HSBC Viva and HSBC Viva Plus. Other than the previous mentioned benefits, the HSBC Viva offers customers one free checked 15 kg bag annually, Mastercard protection insurance, and access to the Mexico City International Airport Mastercard Elite Lounge four times per year. HSBC Viva Plus cardholders will also enjoy 10 kg of carry-on and 15 kg of checked baggage at no extra cost, free seat selection, Platinum Mastercard insurance, 10 accesses to the Lounge Key per year, and unlimited access to the Mastercard Elite Lounge at Mexico City International Airport.
