United Airlines has today announced the launch of a new ad campaign, promoting their no change fee policy introduced in 2020, while inspiring football fans to believe in next season. The series of local ads star Emmy award winning actor Kyle Chandler.
On Tuesday (February 6, 2024), United Airlines announced the launch of a new ad campaign featuring Emmy award winning actor Kyle Chandler. The ads promote United’s no change fee policy introduced in 2020, which has saved customers over $2 billion in change fees, while inspiring football fans to believe in next season. The series of ads will air this Sunday in five different markets, encouraging fans to believe in their favorite team by booking tickets to the big game next year in New Orleans, knowing they can change their tickets without fees. The campaign, called ‘Believing Changes Everything’, is the first time a big game advertiser has created this many different commercials for local markets.
In Tuesday’s announcement, United Airlines’ Chief Customer Officer, Linda Jojo, said,
“This simple policy change has had a dramatic impact on our customers and the overall experience of flying United. You can book with confidence knowing that even if your – or your teams' – plans change, United has your back.”
Also commenting on the advertising collaboration, Actor Kyle Chandler, said,
“This is about believing. Believing so hard that you book your flight to next year’s big game before the season even starts. Because believing that hard can change everything.”
United Airlines’ Chief Advertising Officer, Maggie Schmerin, added,
“Everyone tuning into the game isn’t feeling the same way, in fact, the majority of fans are watching someone else’s team play. This presented a unique creative opportunity to make an ad that speaks directly to the cities and fanbases who are already looking ahead to next season. By producing market-specific commercials, we can avoid the sport clichés that are all-too-common this time of year and demonstrate that United is standing with fans of the local team who are already excited about next season.”

The market-specific commercials will target Chiefs Fans in Kansas City, Browns fans in Cleveland and Texans fans in Houston on broadcast TV, as well as Bears Fans and Broncos fans on social media in Chicago and Denver, respectively. A general market as will also air on TV in Chicago, Denver, Baltimore, Orlando, Colorado Springs and Cincinnati. United is the official commercial airline for the San Francisco 49ers and the official commercial airline of the Kansas City Chiefs, and will be flying both teams to the big game this weekend in Las Vegas. The new ‘Believing Changes Everything’ commercials were directed by two-time Oscar winner Chloé Zhao, and produced in partnership with United’s advertising agency, 72andSunny.
