United Airlines Adds 74 Flights this Fall for College and Professional Football Games

United Airlines is adding new routes, more flights and aircraft with more seats this fall as football fans prepare to cheer on their favorite teams. The carrier will add 74 flights, including 52 new direct flights between college towns and pro football markets on gameday weekends.

Today (August 4, 2021), United Airlines announced the addition of 74 flights, including 52 new direct flights between college towns and professional football markets on gameday weekends from September through November 2021. This fall United will operate three times as many direct flights to college towns than in fall 2019, providing more opportunities for football fans to cheer on their favorite teams. The added service also includes 44 point-to-point flights for 21 of the biggest away games.


In Wednesday’s announcement, United Airlines’ Vice President of Domestic Network Planning, Ankit Gupta, said,


“Nothing brings people together like the opportunity to cheer on the teams they love. This upcoming season, United is adding even more direct flights to college and professional football games than we've ever added before so our customers can reunite with the teams, tailgates and touchdowns they may have missed last season.”


During September, United will add flights between Austin and Bentonville so fans can watch the University of Texas take on the University of Arkansas. For October, the airline will offer direct service for five games including State College, PA to Cedar Rapids, Iowa (Pennsylvania State University at University of Iowa); Birmingham, AL to College Station, TX (University of Alabama at Texas A&M); Syracuse, NY to Greenville/Spartanburg, SC (Syracuse at Clemson); Los Angeles, CA to South Bend, IN (USC at Notre Dame) and Raleigh, NC to South Bend, IN (University of North Carolina at Notre Dame). For November, customers will enjoy added service from Baton Rouge, LA to Birmingham, AL (LSU at University of Alabama) and South Bend, IN to San Francisco, CA (Notre Dame at Stanford).


Professional Football fans will also enjoy added service to see Green Bay at New Orleans on the weekend of September 12th, Green Bay at San Francisco on the weekend of September 26th, Tampa Bay at New England on the weekend of October 3rd and Buffalo at Kansas City on the Weekend of October 10th. During September, United Airlines will operate 88 percent of their domestic schedule compared to 2019.
