Spirit Airlines to Launch New Direct Service Between Ponce, Puerto Rico and Orlando, Florida

Starting February 16, 2022, Spirit Airlines will offer daily service between Ponce, on the southern coast of Puerto Rico, and Orlando, Florida. The new Ponce service complements the airline’s existing service from San Juan and Aguadilla.

On Thursday (October 14, 2021), Spirit airlines announced the launch of new daily service between Mercedita International Airport (PSE) in Ponce, Puerto Rico and Orlando (MCO) starting February 16, 2022. The new flights from Ponce complement Spirit’s existing flights to and from San Juan (SJU) and Aguadilla (BQN) in Puerto Rico. Orlando International Airport is one of Spirit’s largest airport operations with approximately 70 daily flights, and will provide convenient one-stop service to Ponce from over a dozen U.S. cities.


In Thursday’s announcement, Spirit Airlines’ Vice President of Network planning, John Kirby, said,


“Adding Ponce as our third market in Puerto Rico is a fantastic way to celebrate 20 years of Spirit serving the island. Our new nonstop flights to Orlando provide connectivity to many high-value travel options for flying in or out of Ponce, along with serving the vibrant and growing Puerto Rican community in Central Florida.”


Also commenting on Spirit’s new Ponce service, the Puerto Rico Tourism Company’s (PRTC) Executive Director, Carlos Mercado Santiago, said,
