Spirit Airlines Inaugurates Service at Columbia Metropolitan Airport in South Carolina

Spirit Airlines has started operations at Columbia Metropolitan Airport in South  Carolina, with exclusive nonstop service to Newark and Orlando, as well as direct service to Fort Lauderdale.

On Thursday (June 5, 2025), Spirit Airlines announced the launch of new service to and from Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) in South Carolina.  The carrier now offers exclusive direct service from Columbia, S.C. to Newark (EWR) and Orlando (MCO), as well as nonstop service to Fort Lauderdale (FLL).  Inbound travelers from Columbia will also enjoy seamless one-stop connections to destinations across Latin America and the Caribbean.  Flights to Fort Lauderdale and Orlando will operate three times weekly, while Newark flights will operate four times per week.  Spirit first launched service to South Carolina a Myrtle Beach (MYR) over 25 years ago, and launched service at Charleston (CHS) in 2023. 


In Thursday’s announcement, Spirit Airlines’ VP – Network Planning, John Kirby, said,


“Spirit’s arrival in Columbia brings South Carolina travelers easy access to some of the top destinations on the East Coast at an unmatched value.  We can't wait to welcome our Columbia Guests onboard and make it easier for travelers to visit South Carolina's capital city.”

Also commenting on Spirit’s new service, Columbia Metropolitan Airport’s VP – Marketing & Air Service Development, Kim Crafton, said,


“We are thrilled to now be able to offer the local community a cost-effective flying option in Spirit Airlines.  Increasing air service to a community can be a long process, as our airport, like many others across the nation, are competing for the same service. I’m thankful our team was able to secure Spirit Airlines and I'm thankful Spirit Airlines sees a great opportunity for a successful partnership for the airport and the Midlands region.”


In celebration of the launch of new service from Columbia, Free Spirit Loyalty members can earn 1,500 bonus points on roundtrip flights and 750 bonus points on one-way flights to/from Columbia.  To qualify, travel bust be booked by June 10th, and flown by July 9, 2025 (T&Cs apply).

 

Recently, Spirit also unveiled a brand new, extra-legroom seating option as part of their ongoing commitment to elevate the guest experience.  The new preferred seating option offers customers even more comfort across four additional inches of legroom in ‘Go Comfy’, with a new generous total pitch of 32 inches.  The extra-legroom seats are now bookable for travel from July 9, 2025.
