Spirit Airlines Announces New Service From Cleveland to Cancun, Adds Frequencies to Key Cities

Spirit Airlines announced Thursday the launch of new service between Cleveland and Cancun, Mexico. The airline is further expanding their Cleveland offering with additional daily flights to Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Las Vegas and Myrtle Beach.

Today, Spirit Airlines announced an expansion of service at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport (CLE), including new international service to Cancun, Mexico, starting February 14, 2020. Spirit started service at CLE in 2015 with three nonstop destinations, which has now grown to 14 daily flights to twelve cities coast-to-coast and now Mexico. In addition to the new service to Cancun International Airport (CUN), Spirit has added additional daily flights to Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Orlando (MCO), Las Vegas (LAS) and Myrtle Beach (MYR), South Carolina. The airline will also upgrade seasonal service between Cleveland and Tampa to year-round service. In Thursday’s announcement, Spirit Airlines’ Vice President of Network Planning, John Kirby said,

Cleveland travelers appreciate our value proposition, which has allowed Spirit to grow significantly from three to twelve destinations in five years. As we look to the future, we look forward to serving and expanding in the region for years to come.”


Also commenting on today’s announcement, Cleveland Hopkins International Airport’s Director, Robert Kennedy added,


“Spirit Airlines is a great partner for CLE and has been for the last five years. We look forward to many more years of success and growth together. Spirit Airlines provides Clevelanders with new opportunities to travel to wonderful locations at competitive costs.”


Miramar, Florida-based low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines operates over 650 daily flights to 77 destinations in the US, Latin America and the Caribbean. The airline allows customers to select and pay for only the products and services they want, something they call “À La Smarte.” Spirit also operates one of the youngest and most fuel-efficient fleets in the US and recently firmed up an order for 100 new Airbus A320neo Family aircraft. The carrier proudly calls their youthful fleet of aircraft their “Fit Fleet®.”
