Southwest Airlines to Resume Service to Central America From June 2021

Southwest Airlines will resume service to Central America from June with nonstop flights from Houston-Hobby and Baltimore/Washington. The carrier will also add flights between Denver and coastal cities, as well as more service to Chicago, St. Louis and Kansas City.

On Friday (April 30, 2021), Southwest Airlines announced the resumption of service to Central America starting June 2021. From Houston-Hobby (HOU), the carrier will resume daily nonstop service to Liberia-Guanacaste (LIR) and San Jose (SJO) in Costa Rica starting June 6, 2021, with one-way fares starting at only $129. Southwest will also add seasonal summer service to Liberia-Guanacaste (LIR) Costa Rica from Baltimore Washington (BWI) starting June 12, 2021, with one-way fares from only $169. Additionally, the airline is adding service in Denver, Chicago (Midway and O’Hare), St. Louis, Kansas City and Orange County/Santa Ana.


In Friday’s announcement, Southwest Airlines’ Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, Andrew Watterson, said,


“We're excited to continue reestablishing previously served international service by reuniting the warm Hospitality of Costa Rica with the Heart and value of Southwest. We're seeing more demand for our international routes that already take our Customers to Aruba, Cancun, Cozumel, Havana, Los Cabos, Montego Bay, Puerto Vallarta, and Punta Cana.


“New flights in our summer flight schedule also bring more Mile High Heart with additional nonstop service between Denver and the coasts—with new or returning links to Savannah/Hilton Head, Sarasota/Bradenton, Norfolk/Virginia Beach, and additional flights to Long Beach, Calif., and Seattle. We're bringing more flights in both Chicago airports, and we continue to spread our love across the Midwest with new flights in St. Louis and Kansas City, both of which are now linked nonstop to Orange County/Santa Ana.”
