On Monday (October 10, 2022), Embraer announced that the Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) has approved financing for the export of six Embraer E175s, to American regional carrier SkyWest Airlines, the largest regional airline in the world. The financing, totaling R$670 million (US $129 million), will be through BNDES Exim Post-shipment with disbursements made in reals in Brazil in favor of Embraer. SkyWest will repay in U.S. dollars, generating foreign currency for Brazil. Since 1998, BNDES has provided 10 different financing facilities to SkyWest covering up to 200 aircraft, including 18 delivered EMB120s, 175 delivered E175s and seven E175s yet to be delivered.

The latest financing is the second financing tranche with BNDES for the sale of Embraer aircraft exports to SkyWest using the innovative Aircraft Financing Insurance Consortium (AFIC) offering from Marsh, the world’s leading insurance broker and risk advisor. The first financing was executed in December 2020 in the amount of R$400 million (US $74.4 million). The Aircraft Non-Payment Insurance (ANPI) policy is underwritten by AXA, AXIS Capital, SOMPO International and Fidelis Insurance. The policy provides that in the event of a default by the debtor, the insurers make all scheduled payments until the principal is repaid.
