On Friday (August 14, 2020), Qatar Airways expanded their role as the leading international carrier to the U.K. with the resumption of daily service to London-Gatwick. The daily flights will commence on August 20, 2020, expanding the carrier’s offer to 45 weekly passenger flights serving four U.K. gateways. The route will be serviced with a modern and fuel-efficient Boeing 787 Dreamliner configured with 22 Business and 232 Economy Class seats. Including the additional service, Qatar Airways will now offer three weekly flights to Edinburgh, daily flights to London-Gatwick, three flights daily to London Heathrow and twice-daily service to Manchester. In Friday’s announcement, Qatar Airways Group’s Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker said,

“We are very pleased to resume flights to London Gatwick, further cementing our position as the leading international carrier providing connectivity to the UK. UK passengers can connect seamlessly and safely via the Best Airport in the Middle East to more than 40 destinations across Africa, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and South Asia. The UK is a very important strategic market for Qatar Airways, and we are proud of our repatriation efforts to-date including never stopping services between the UK and Doha that have helped bring over 200,000 passengers home. The resumption of London Gatwick services is a significant indicator of the resilience of the UK travel market, and we look forward to resuming more of our UK destinations to support the recovery of tourism and trade in the region.”

Qatar Airways currently operates eight weekly freighter flights to London-Heathrow and London-Stansted. Throughout the pandemic, the carrier operated many charters and freight-only passenger aircraft to the UK, transporting essential goods, medical supplies and PPE to the region. Including the resumption of daily passenger service to London-Gatwick, Qatar Airways will operate a total of 74 weekly flights to the United Kingdom providing over 1,400 tons of cargo capacity each way.

Celebrated and award-winning Qatar Airways was named the ‘World’s Best Airline’ in the 2019 World Airline Awards managed by Skytrax. The carrier was also named ‘Best Airline in the Middle East,’ ‘World’s Best Business Class’ and awarded the title for ‘Best Business Class Seat.’ Qatar Airways is the only airline ever to have received the prestigious “Skytrax Airline of the Year” title five times. The national carrier of the State of Qatar, Qatar Airways normally serves over 170 global destinations with a fleet of more than 250 modern aircraft. The airline’s primary hub is located at Hamad International Airport in Doha, Qatar.
