Qantas will launch three weekly Airbus A330 flights between Melbourne and Jakarta, Indonesia from April 16, 2023. The carrier has also launched an international sale, with fares to 26 destinations up to 35 percent lower than normal lead-in fares.
On Thursday (February 2, 2023), Qantas announced the launch of new service between Melbourne and Jakarta, Indonesia. The route will be operated three times weekly with an Airbus A330 starting April 16, 2023. The new route complements Qantas’ existing service between Sydney and Jakarta, and will facilitate connections to Australia from other major Indonesian cities such as Surabaya and Medan. The new Jakarta service is the carrier’s third new destination from Melbourne since borders reopened, joining new flights to Delhi and Dallas/Fort Worth. To celebrate the launch of the new Melbourne-Jakarta route, Qantas is offering a special fare starting at $899 return, which is available until February 7, 2023.
In Thursday’s announcement, Qantas Domestic and International’s CEO, Andrew David, said,
“Victoria is an incredibly important part of our network and we’re seeing strong demand for travel to and from Melbourne. We expect these flights to be popular with Victoria’s large Indonesian expat community wanting to visit family and friends back home as well as offering a new gateway for travellers looking to explore the region. Indonesia is a rapidly growing economy and home to more than 270 million people. As one of Australia’s closest neighbours, these new flights will also help support the growing trade and investment links between our two countries. We’d like to thank the Victorian Government and Melbourne Airport for their support and collaboration on the launch of this new route.”
Additionally, Qantas has launched a sale with discounted fares to 26 international destinations, including service from Melbourne to Delhi, London, Singapore and Dallas/Fort Worth, as well as from Sydney to Los Angeles, Santiago, Bengaluru and Seoul. The sale also includes flights to Singapore from both Perth and Brisbane. During the sale, which runs until 11:59 p.m. (AEDT) on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 (unless sold out prior), the carrier will offer over 170,000 seats with sale fares that are up to 35 percent lower than the normal lead-in fares.
