Porter Airlines Relaunches Service After 18 Month Hiatus

Today, Porter Airlines has returned to the air after being grounded for 18 months due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. The first relaunched flights include service to Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Thunder Bay, with additional destinations restarting over the next 10 days.

On Wednesday (September 8, 2021), Porter Airlines announced the relaunch of operations after an 18 month hiatus due to public health and travel restrictions related to the global COVID-19 pandemic. The first resumed flights include service to Toronto, Montreal, Ottawa and Thunder Bay, with other destinations such as Halifax, Quebec City St, John’s and Moncton to be added over the next 10 days. Starting September 17th, Porter will also resume transborder service to Boston, Chicago, New York and Washington D.C., with flights to other year-round destinations resuming on October 6, 2021.


In Today’s announcement, Porter Airlines’ President and CEO, Michael Deluce, said,


“Our passengers and team members have been waiting for this day to arrive. We currently have over 900 team members who have put in countless hours to get everything ready for our return to service, with more being recalled or hired every week. Everyone at Porter is looking forward to welcoming passengers back and delivering our distinct style of service again.”


Toronto’s Mayor John Tory joined the relaunch celebrations at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport this morning as the carrier ramped up operations. Porter has launched a ‘Healthy Flights’ program to ensure the highest level of sanitization for guests and team members. The company has also introduced a COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, where team members must be fully vaccinated or present a negative test 72 hours prior to the start of their shift.


Additionally, customers who book flights before September 30, 2021 can change or cancel flights without fees. Travelers can also book flights with a Full Refund Option for $40 plus taxes, which allows a full refund (including taxes and fees) upon advance flight cancellation for any reason.
