PLAY Airlines will offer twice weekly service to Amsterdam for the winter 2021/22 season. The carrier will operate flights on Mondays and Fridays starting December 3, 2021 and tickets are now available for booking.
On Thursday (September 23, 2021) PLAY Airlines announced the launch of new twice-weekly service to Amsterdam. The flights will operate on Mondays and Fridays starting December 3, 2021. PLAY has been assigned slots at Schiphol Airport Amsterdam and tickets are now available for booking. The new route has been launched due to increasing demand for flights to and from Iceland as a result of the improving status of the global COVID-19 pandemic.
In Thursday’s announcement, PLAY’s CEO, Birgir Jónsson, said,
“We have seen a big increase in sales in the past few weeks and we can sense that people are willing to travel again. We think this is the perfect time to broaden our network in Europe and to offer our passengers low fares to and from Amsterdam. We‘re hopeful that our newly added destination will be successful, both for our Icelandic and Dutch passengers.”
Founded in 2019 by Arnar Magnússon, PLAY is a new Iceland-based low-cost carrier (LCC) which operates flights between Iceland and Europe, and has future plans to offer trans-Atlantic long-haul service between Europe and North America. The airline launched their inaugural passenger revenue flight on Thursday, June 24, 2021, with service between Keflavík International Airport (KEF) and London Stansted (STN).
